Freeform Opals
Opals are really thick embossing powders
similar to an American product called U.T.E.E. (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel),
the difference is that Opals are made in Australia, non-toxic, acid free and way
prettier.
MATERIALS
| |
Opals embossing powders |
Glad bake or other waxed food wrap |
| |
Versamark Watermark Ink Pad |
Embossing Heat Gun |
| |
Metallic Brilliance ink pad |
Rubber Stamp |
|
PROCEDURE
| |
Ink up a spot on some baking
paper (this is freeform) or a small piece of card (this is direct to surface)
with watermark ink pad (any pigment ink will work). |
| |
Pour Opals onto inked area and
tip excess back into jar. |
| |
Heat with a heat gun (these
first few layers are fairly loose, so you'll get a fair bit of Opals blowing off
the piece) until Opals turn liquid. Then while still hot, sprinkle more
opals on the top - repeat 3 times until you have a thick skin of Opals.
I like to do the sprinkling fairly quickly - so I hold the heat
gun in one hand and the opals jar in the other and point the gun into the air
and sprinkle on the Opals without turning the heat gun off. |
| |
When you have a thick enough
layer, ink a stamp with Brilliance ink or metallic ink and heat Opals one last
time – while hot stamp into Opals – leave stamp in Opals until the Opals have
cooled and then gently remove your stamp. |
| |
If you made a freeform piece
gently peel off baking paper and adhere to project using double sided tape.
If you made something direct to surface then adhere to project in the same way. |
