Caught in Crystal

MATERIALS

Dimensional liquid (eg: Glossy accents) Permanent ink pad (black)
Laminate (either the sticky or non sticky kind) Tooth pick
Radiant Pearl paints OR dye re-inkers White tissue paper
  Stamp/s of your choice

PROCEDURE

Stamp (your choice of stamp) directly onto laminate using permanent black ink - if using the sticky laminate sheet, stamp onto the non-sticky side.  Be careful when stamping this image - laminate is super smooth and it's very easy to smudge or smear the image.  Leave to dry for 1 hour (you want to be certain this is not going to smear when you turn it over).
Turn over stamped laminate so that the image is face down on your disposable surface.  If using sticky kind remove backing and expose sticky surface.  Squeeze enough dimensional liquid onto your laminate to cover the image (you can use something to spread it around a little - I do NOT recommend using a paint brush unless you're happy to throw it out later!)
Once image is covered in dimensional liquid you can add one of 2 items either radiant pearls OR dye re-inkers.  If using dye re-inkers you only need the smallest amounts - these dry quite dark so use sparingly.
If using dye re-inkers - add 2-3 drops of each colour you are using (no more than 3 unless you want a brown mess!) directly into the dimensional liquid and then using a tooth pick swirl colours around to spread and mix a little until you are happy with the result.  Remember - these dry fairly dark so resist the urge to add more colour!
If using radiant pearls then using the wooden end of a paint brush or the narrow end of a spoon, add 2-3 colours of Radiant Pearls directly to the dimensional liquid.  Then using a tooth pick swirl colours around to spread and mix a little until you are happy with the result.
While coloured dimensional liquid is still wet you will need to place a piece of crumpled tissue paper onto the wet liquid.  (By crumpled I mean a piece of tissue that has been scrunched into a tight ball and then carefully pulled out flat again - leaving creases and a crumpled look to the tissue.)  You need to carefully lay this onto of the wet dimensional liquid and then using the tooth pick again carefully push the tissue down into the liquid in places - as many of as few as you like.  Once the tissue is sufficiently squashed into the dimensional liquid - add a little more dimensional liquid to the tissue paper until paper is again covered - you can spread with the toothpick if you like.  Check your piece and make sure there are no air bubbles - poke with a toothpick if there are until bubble escapes or a pin to dissipate.
Leave to dry overnight - don't be tempted to fiddle with this too soon - you could ruin it.
When dry you can carefully trim the piece and mount onto card as a centrepiece or use as a pin or pendant.

HINTS & TIPS

This technique is fairly messy  so you'll need a disposable surface to work on - I like scrap paper or butcher's paper.
