Gorgeous Glitz

MATERIALS

Assorted Moonshadow Mists or Starburst Stains (with spray cap) Rubber Stamps
6 pieces of Plain white card or Watercolour paper   – card-front size Water
Newspaper or other absorbent paper Black Ink Pad

PROCEDURE

Lay 2 pieces of card onto the Newspaper or scrap paper.

Choose 2 strong colours of either Moonshadow Mists or Starburst Stains (with spray cap).

Spray first colour directly onto card, covering about 50% of the cards’ area.

Without any delay, spray second colour onto remaining white areas of the card – leave no area uncoloured.  With this technique it’s better to have too much colour rather than not enough.
Repeat steps 2 to 4 twice more, each time choosing different colours for your backgrounds – this will result in 6 pieces of Misty Starburst background card, in three differing colour combinations.
Leave Misty Starburst backgrounds to air dry naturally for a beautifully blended background or if impatient, assist the drying process by heating with a heat gun (from a distance) or an iron.
The card is likely to buckle during the drying process and may need to be flattened with an iron, set to ‘no-steam’, or under a stack of books.
Once card is completely dry, it can be used as a fabulous background or act as a spectacular feature when stamped over.  Very versatile, why not try this technique as a background and as a backing colour for the main image – remember to stamp in a permanent ink for best results.

HINTS & TIPS

To make the central image stand out from the background, try adhering it with foam tape, this raises the image from the background slightly and will make the image pop!

The amount of sparkle in this technique, means that the papers created with it will not be suitable to use with some inks – try your ink on a scrap of background paper before stamping your whole image.

Don’t be afraid to only use a little of the background   and layer it on plainer coloured card – depending on the colours chosen it may be a little overwhelming (colour wise) to use the whole piece.
If using this technique in scrap booking or on a product that will be handled more than usual, it is a good idea to spray a clear sealer over the background – this will ensure your product looks fresh for longer.
For a really stunning piece, layer an image transferred Opals embellishment over this background.
