Find an Iris folding pattern
appropriate for your intended project eg: a square. |
 |
| |
Using a computer / photocopier,
resize pattern to fit onto the base card, allowing a few cms
for layering if desired the square is 7 x 7cm. |
| |
Cut out the pattern and trace the
image (reversed) onto the back of the base card. |
| |
Cut out the pattern on
the base card using a sharp blade, being careful not to cut into
the surrounding card as this will become your card front and is
what the paper strips are adhered to. |
| |
Follow the pattern
directions as to number of paper colours required and cut paper
into strips 2cm wide (depending on size of pattern) and 1cm
longer than the widest/longest part of the design. In this case
4 different colours/patterns of paper, each 2cm wide x 9cm long
and 8 pieces of each colour/pattern plus one specialty piece
for the iris. |
| |
Carefully fold long
edges of paper strips together and secure difficult papers with
glue to keep folds neat. |
| |
Begin gluing papers
onto the iris fold pattern, one strip at a time beginning at no
1. Align each piece with the pattern which should be cut out
and just sitting below the card you are attaching the papers
to. Be sure to only glue papers onto the base card do not
glue onto the pattern. |
| |
Continue placing papers
in accordance with the instructions, which will vary depending
on the intended effect, until the final piece of paper is ready
to be placed. This central piece is often something unique or
metallic, to enhance the appearance of the iris. |
| |
Adhere iris folded image to backing
card and embellish to finish. |
