PROCEDURE
| |
Choose a plain card for your initial layer, I
like black. Rip, cut and tear pieces of paper in coordinating or
contrasting colours. Make the pieces interesting by using
different textures, sizes, edges and colours. Use a glue spreader
to apply a thin layer of glue to the paper you are sticking down, this
avoids wrinkles and blobs of glue when dry. Use as little glue as
possible so that the paper is glued down very flat. Fill in some
of the blank spaces on the cardboard with splotches, streaks, smears and
splatters of lumiere and Schminke. Leave to dry completely
overnight - try to avoid using the heat gun to hurry the drying process
along, as this can warp the paper or ruin the glue. |
| |
When the cardboard is dry select stamps and
embossing inks/powders that will compliment/contrast your design colours
and feel. Stamp over paper collage, don't worry too much about how it
looks as you'll be cutting it up. Try and make each area of the
collage visually interesting so that you don't end up with too many
'boring' squares when finished. |
| |
Cut A4 cardboard and paper collage into 3cm x
3cm squares (this is where the cutting mat and cutting tools are
essential). Be careful not to rip any of the collaged
papers. If necessary glue down any paper that has lifted. |
| |
Glue squares in a rectangular pattern (3 across x
4 down) with 0.5cm between each square onto a new piece of
card. Layer card onto A5 base card, with complimentary papers
between or as is. |
| |
This card may then be decorated
with further stamping, embellishments, text or a variety of other
decorative effects. |
|
HINTS & TIPS
| |
Variations on the 3 x 4 pattern
are: a diamond shape, 4 x 4, a row of 3 squares about 1cm away from each
other, a single mounted and layered square, or cut out small triangles and
mount in a diamond or a triangle pattern. |
| |
Don't use paper that will colour 'bleed' when
wet. |
| |
It is important to have straight edges or
when you put the card together it will be obvious and detract from the
design. |
