Shaker Cards

A Shaker Card is a card with a clear window or pouch, filled with small items that move when the card is shaken.  Shaker cards are made with a piece of foam core board used to create the space in which shakeable items are put.

MATERIALS

Die cut shaker card - card with centre
pre-cut or you can do it yourself
A4 clear acetate film (OHT plastic is also OK)
  Assorted stamps (House Mouse -
Petal throwing and My Stamps - Daisy)
Radiant Pearls Paints  (christmas rose, celestial sky, twilight time)
Sharp Kai scissors Lumiere paints (green)
SuperTape double sided tape White A4 card
  Possible inclusions inside the shaker
card: seed beads, shimmery leaves, chopped up Crystal Shred or cardboard petals.
Various Tombo markers (in a variety of shades of pink and yellow)

PROCEDURE

Cut a rectangle of Foam Core Board (F.C.B.) about 1cm shorter than the finished card will be.  Mark out the size of the shaker window onto the F.C.B. make sure it is centred.
Cut a window from the F.C.B. so it is .8mm larger than the actual opening for the window on the card - this way you shouldn't be able to see the F.C.B. when finished.
On a separate piece of white card bigger than the opening of the shaker card will be, stamp what will be your background picture and then colour.  I coloured with Tombo markers and Radiant Pearls paints.  The combination of these 2 mediums gives a bold and bright result with a touch of glitz.
On a piece of white card cut to the same size as the shaker card front, create a facing.  I have stamped daisy's to frame the mouse, leaving the centre free of images as this bit will be cut out so the mouse can be seen.
Colour facing with Tombos and carefully cut out the middle.  Attach facing to card with double sided tape.
Stick a piece of acetate (about 1 cm larger than opening) over the opening - ie directly behind where you just stuck the facing.
Stick pieces of paper over the edges of the F.C.B. to neaten it up before sticking the F.C.B. to the top of the acetate using double sided tape, make sure that you don't leave any gaps or the inclusions may stick or fall out.
Place your inclusions, seed beads, petals etc, on top of the acetate sheet and glue the background picture on to the back of the F.C.B. so the picture is facing the acetate. Make sure you glue the picture the right way up, otherwise your image will be upside down.  Finish by gluing the flap of the card to F.C.B. so the messy bits are hidden.
