Watercolour Wash with Mists & Stains
MATERIALS
 |
Moonshadow Mists or Starburst Stains
with spray cap, can also use Adirondack Colour Wash inks |
Rubber Stamps |
| Black Archival Ink Pad |
Water |
| A5 Plain white card or Watercolour paper |
Newspaper or scrap paper |
|
PROCEDURE
| |
Lay newspaper onto a flat
surface – make sure it is 3-4 layers thick to absorb any extra
moisture.
|
| |
Place 1 or 2 pieces of white
card onto the newspaper.
|
| |
Select 3 colours of Colour
Wash Ink, Moonshadow Mist or Starburst Stain |
| |
Spray the first Colourwash ink
onto the card (the aim is to cover about 33% of the card with
each colour) and then leave to dry – let dry naturally or speed
up the process with an iron. Dry Between
Each Colour!
|
| |
Spray the second colour of
Colourwash ink onto the card, again leave it to dry naturally or
speed up the process with an iron.
Dry Between Each Colour! |
| |
Spray the final colour (use
a Mist or Stain for shimmer) onto the card filling in any
remaining white areas, leave to air dry or hurry along the
process with an iron. |
| |
If the card has buckled wait
until it is completely dry and then flatten the card with a hot
iron (no steam). |
| |
Once dry, stamp with a black or
metallic ink pad, the image may also be embossed if desired,
though for the embossing to work successfully the card will need
to be bone dry and have had an anti-static pad wiped over the
surface.
|
| |
Trim the image or background
piece and mount onto coloured card.
|
|
HINTS & TIPS
| |
Add one colour at a time and dry completely before adding
additional colours – this keeps the colours separate and vibrant and prevents them from bleeding into each other. |
| |
Use bleach to colour main image – this will only work
with dye based inks. |
| |
If embossing is required, use a static removing product before
attempting to emboss, as embossing
powder tends to cling to the mica particles in the Moonshadow Mist and the Starburst Stains. |
| |
Heating with an iron may change the colour of some of the inks used. If possible, it is best
to leave the card to dry naturally between each application of
colour. |
| |
Try this with different colours and products, there are some
stunning combinations out there! |
